Taunting is just a word they use to stop players from showing any form of expression, excitement or entertainment.

This whole thing is a bunch of bullshyt.

What was the rule years back that they overdid during preseason but damn near shelved during the regular season?

This stuff won't carry into the season. I'm certain. Too many dollars involved for such trival shyt mattering.

Yeah they want to really crack down:

“We saw an increase in actions that clearly are not within the spirit and intent of this rule, and not representative of the respect to opponents and others on the field. Game officials have been instructed to strictly enforce the taunting rules, and players and coaches are reminded that two taunting penalties committed by an individual player will result in automatic disqualification. In addition, the taunting player may be fined and/or suspended depending on the severity of the actions.”

Remember taunting is also verbal and we're not on the field so we don't necessarily hear what was said.
