Below the waists blocks could be outlawed by NFL competition committee - NFL - Sporting News
Blocking is getting more and more dangerous in the NFL, and the league could be taking steps to make it safer.
The NFLs Competition Committee will consider outlawing all blocks below the waist for the 2013 season, according to SI.coms Peter King.
King reports than the ban is being considered for health and safety reasons.
While he is skeptical that a full prohibition will pass, King theorizes that the chop block and low downfield blocks could be abolished.
A low block in a game against the New York Jets ended Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushings season in Week 5.
