Thats my dude much respect he stayed in the hood helping to keep GangBangin to a minimum pushing for the youth to stay in school and organizing events to bring the people together...Brick City needs this kind of leadership....

He use to write under the name Leroi Jones and has published some pretty important work on black literature and culture, especially in regards to black music.

Ras is a good dude from the few times i have meet seemed like a "real" person if that makes sense
when Occupy newark was in effect he came down there one day, i was there for at least an hour every day , this particular day though i stayed most the day, it was the first night the city had given permission to sleep over night in the park for those that wanted to , a bunch of ppl were i was not, anyways the cops was having NO part of that, they had a couple of the riot trucks down there at least half a dozen squad cars and cops on horse ready to kick ass, few ppl left i stayed
i was surprised when a bunch of SUVs showed up around 9 ish and Ras hops out , he talked with a bunch of us trying to get the low down on what was going down and said he was gonna stay, he made a phone call to someone to make sure the permit for the overnight sleeping was legal wish it was, that when things got interesting
police officer comes over very humble ask Ras what he was doin there
Ras hit him with the "am here to stay"
Ras hands one of his aides some money tells him to go buy him a tent and a sleeping bag from walmart
The officer goes back and must have called his police chief about 11pm a bunch of unmakred cars show , chief comes over and is like "u really staying here tonight? "
Ras said yup
anyways a bunch of political fukery insued, cops try to claim there werent any TENT PERMITS that the sleeping permits were only for sleeping bags , ras said YOLO ill sleep in a tent, someone said the word "arrest" and ras said something am never gonna forget "you think am scarred of getting arrested?arrest me AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS"
