Despite the confusion, New York Mayor Eric Adams said he approved of what the office of emergency management did, and that it was all about "preparedness" and "taking necessary steps after what happened in Ukraine."

"No, I don't think it was alarmist," Adams said at a news conference on Tuesday. "I'm a big believer in better safe than sorry ... this was right after the attacks in the Ukraine and OEM took a very proactive step to say let's be prepared."

"It doesn't mean just a nuclear attack, it's any natural disaster. Pack a bag, know where your medicines are located. These are just smart things to do," the mayor said.

Adams added that this was just one of many emergency preparedness announcements in the works

I actually use to work for that agency years ago. A video like this take a while to get done because outside of actually filming it you got to get funding and upper management approvals. They probably wisely decided to make this after the Ukraine war started because while we all ignore it, there is a legit heightened risk of nuclear war. It’s just coming out now because of the factors I brought up before.

NYCEM is a great agency, but they have no more knowledge or warning of a nuclear war happening than anyone else. It’s just a city agency that coordinates emergency response to avoid their being dysfunction during an emergency. When they are not doing that they promote emergency preparedness. Just like in this video. They have a whole series on hurricanes and dealing with extreme heat. They are not a federal agency with any security clearances on foreign threats.

I just don't think we're going to survive a nuclear strike but it's nice to know when hurricane season starts
