I know this shyt go into the "no shyt Sherlock" file, but when there people in the NRA and even on The Coli claiming that more guns in the country would actually make it safer.....

Study #1: The Sandy Hook shooting led to a spike in gun sales resulting in approximately 3,000,000 new guns purchased, as well as intensified cleaning/use of guns already owned. This spike in gun sales correlated with a spike of 60 more accidental gun deaths than usual, including 20 children, over the next four months following Sandy Hook. The spike in accidental gun deaths matched the states where the highest spikes in gun sales had occurred.

Firearms and accidental deaths: Evidence from the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting

Study #2: From 2005-2013, in the two weeks following Nevada gun shows, firearm injuries in California counties within driving distance of those shows increased by an average of 70% compared to the two weeks prior to the shows. (Nevada gun shows, unlike California gun shows, don't require every sale to be registered and a background check to be done.)

For all you :dahell: posters, this is about countering the conservative argument that more guns leads to lower crime because somehow everyone can protect themselves.

I’m still waiting for this case study to be reproduced a few times. The evidence here is weak and anecdotal at best. I’d say the right thing to do is continue the current trend for a century and then see where the numbers lie.

With any luck firearm deaths will surpass cancer. We would cure cancer.
