It is better, if there was something awful going on in NO schools this thread and the articles would have been covered in stats

But the numbers look good in NO, the schools have improved

If you read the article you can see that it's mostly emotional arguments being made by opponents

Charter schools are ran by foundations. Foundations are ran by wealthy people and businesses. We give tax payer money to the wealthy and tell them not to adhere any educational guidelines.

Big critic of the public education system but this is terrible precedent.

A profit motive in education will, like just about any other product/service, lead to decisions being made solely based on financial considerations.

Why exactly is this bad?

It means poor kids will have less access to a decent education. It also means school staff wages will be driven down. These are the two main problems. Additionally, on average, charter schools don't perform better than public schools. So what's the point? Same as always: More Money For Us, fukk You.

That's interesting, usually posters around here pride themselves in facts and figure and reality based politics but after multiple posts nobody has provided stats showing that eliminating the public school system with charter schools in NO have been bad for the city
