Disney wants games back on ABC because scripted programming no longer king with streaming taking over
Live sports is king for all these networks which is why NBA not really worried about low ratings either
Out of the top 20 tv shows in 2020, 18 of them are NFL and the other 2 are the presidential debates
What are you losing at this point anyway? People are cutting the cord anyway, why not put sports back on network for the few people you do have watching? It might be hard to believe but people in 2020 still don’t have cable and Internet. Get all you can in this era.

ESPN won't like it, but either the money is all going back to Disney anyways.

They can't move it to... Tuesday night at 8 PM?
That’s when they air The Bachelor/Bachelorette. They’d have to dead the show altogether. It’s a two hour show and based on what I read, any time they’d air their show other than a Monday, the ratings would fall hard. That’s why timeslots are important. You could have the same show but if you mess with the times, fans might not follow it.

I just watched a video from Jim Cramer and he thinks Disney is gonna get rid of ESPN. They're doing some restructuring in the company.
So it's a possibility. ESPN isn't actually needed when you think about it. 6 days a week throughout the year they broadcast at most 4 hrs of live sports. Then the rest is talking heads and old highlights that have been on the internet and the league's sites. And all those highlights are better than what espn puts out.

I can see this happening. I don't watch ESPN besides live sports. All those talking heads mouthing off about their sports opinion is a brain drain. I don't know people in real life who watch those shows.

Want the NBA to get something like this so bad. Gotta change they marketing model. NFL keeps on rollin tho :manny:
Lol, the NBA is probably the best marketed League in the World alongside the English Premier League. As long as it remains a black sport & it's still an 82 Game season then the NFL will always remain king.

The NBA's evergrowing international audience is why they aren't worried about overtaking the NFL domestically.

They had MNF on a couple weeks ago on ABC to commemorate 50 years of MNF

I think they're gonna get it... they really want to have the Super Bowl back on ABC too
And somehow the graphics will be even shyttier on Super Bowl Sunday :unimpressed:

That's the situation that they have with Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 as it's a Thursday staple at this point.

I thought streaming services would be in on these talks for rights. I'm disappointed they're not

They more than likely don't have the bread to compete outside of Amazon and more than likely don't think that ROI would be worth the cost it would take to get it. Because of COVID-19, ESPN and other companies are having to cut salary just to be able to afford the increasing in television rights from sports.
