*edit: I ran the drums through an amp and tried to beef up the kick a bit more.

thanks for listening.Interesting.. I tried using that break a while back but its real hard to incorporate in a hip hop beat. RZA's drums have a steel, mettalic texture. idk how he did it
electric piano is on point though. Is that the same sample?
I think you would have to play the break through a tube amp or somethin to get it sounding proper. wait, so you just recorded a flute to get that sound?thanks for listening.
Yeah, the drums were tough. Firstly, I couldn't find a "clean" version of The Detroit Emeralds' "You're Getting a Little Too Smart." The break that's on the iTunes version has bass guitar all over it - another example of not having the original 12" available on line. So, I found the 12" version on YouTube and used that. I laid a 909 kick under the break for more knock but still couldn't get it like the o.g. version. I mean, I didn't get it mastered or anything - I literally just bounced the track 20 minutes ago.
As for the piano, that was played by me - same with the flute sound. I wasn't really sure what that (flute sound) was. I initially thought it was some type of strings. Rza added these over top the Koko Taylor sample; Primarily during the hook parts and intro.
It was a stock sound in Logic Pro X, but yeah. Nothing fancy. I figured whatever MIDI sound(s) I have now gotta be infinitely better than what Rza had in '95.wait, so you just recorded a flute to get that sound?
Thx for the listen, fam.
one of my fav. beats ever
I'm gonna find out soon enough. Releasing an album of all my remakes on iTunes. It's gonna be called The Reboot.it sounds exactly like it. crazy theres gotta be some kind of market for that
props on the advice and listen, fam.I think you got the structure of the beat well...
You are missing the "air" though...Try adding some reverb...All those 90's beats were full of reverb...And like an above poster stated you need to run the drums through an "electric guitar amp" VST to get that "tight" feel...
Google GSuite VST, and download their JCM900 VST...I have been using that VST to make my drums sound "tight and dirty" like in the 90's...
I also use FL Studio multiband compressor and use the "crazy bass" preset to create a "heavier" drum sound...
you're absolutely right. I'm trying to figure this out right now. I got Ultimate Komplete 8 and am trying out all the tube amp plug-ins and shyt. The real cherry on top to this beat is the AGGRESSIVE compression on the kicks
shyts sound damn near distorted
