Warner Bros. rebooting Scooby-Doo with live-action film, S.C.O.O.B.
At CinemaCon on Tuesday, Warner Bros. announced that it was rebooting Scooby-Doo in a live-action film, called S.C.O.O.B., according to Screen Crush, and were looking into other Hannah-Barbera properties to bring to theaters. The iconic animation studio, which was founded in 1957, produced some of the most beloved cartoons in history, including Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons and The Flintstones.
A rep at CinemaCon reportedly announced during the panel that the studio was looking to unlock "the whole Hannah-Barbera" universe, but didn't specify whether that meant these prospective titles would be live-action features based on the cartoon series.
It's not the first time that the animation studio's creations have been adapted as feature films. There were a string of live-action Scooby-Doo movies in the early 2000s, and an animated Yogi Bear feature in 2010. Not to mention, of course, the various live-action Flintstones movies, including the classic film, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.
There's not much else known about the Scooby-Doo reboot at this time, but it doesn't look like Freddie Prinze, Jr. is going to be returning to reprise his role as Fred, unfortunately.
Warner Bros. is already trying attempting to build a cinematic universe around a cast of DC superheroes — including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. Not to mention that Scooby-Doo is already in the midst of a massive redesign over at DC Comics.
S.C.O.O.B. is slated to be released Sept. 21, 2018.
