When Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced the special features for their upcoming Batman: Assault on Arkham, it was revealed that the August 12 Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD will contain a sneak peek at the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie. Today, we've learned that the next movie will be titled Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, a sequel to Justice League: War. Take a look at the back cover artwork for Batman: Assault on Arkham, courtesy of World's Finest, then read on for more details.
Back in January, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment held the world premiere of Justice League: War, just a few weeks before it debuted on Blu-ray and DVD. An end credits scene was shown that sets up this upcoming movie, featuring Orm (Ocean Master), Aquaman's brother, emerging from the sea, carrying an old man's body, when he says the following line.
"The Surface Dwellers have killed our king. This is an act of war. And they will pay."
Fans at the premiere screening noticed that this line was in reference to one of the New 52 DC Comics titles, Throne of Atlantis, which crosses over between both the Aquaman and Justice League story lines. When asked if the new movie will be called Throne of Atlantis, a Warner Bros. spokesperson would only confirm that the title will have the word Atlantis in it.
No story details have been released, and Warner Bros. hasn't announced when Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will debut on DVD and Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will likely make those announcements at Comic-Con 2014, so stay tuned as more concrete info emerges.
