New Black Owned Grocery Store in North Baton Rouge, Let’s Do Our Super Bowl Party Shopping There
Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday, one of the weekends American families look forward to shopping for game day food to enjoy the festivities of America’s biggest football game. As you prepare for Super Bowl Sunday, no matter what team you’re for, we have a unique opportunity to team build in another way, by supporting the newly opened and black owned Save A Lot grocery store at 12250 Plank Rd. in north Baton Rouge. Tyrone Legette a former NFL corner back for the New Orleans Saints opened the store right outside of Baker in what is known as the Brownsfield area of north Baton Rouge.
North Baton Rouge has seen over the past decade several grocery stores leave and none come in to replace it, so this store is a huge step in the right direction. With that step comes the responsibility of the community of north Baton Rouge to support this business and help it flourish. By doing so, the community says to businesses that they can sustain in an urban market.
The reality is that over 25,000 people a day drive past the location where the Save A Lot store is now opened. The potential is limitless, if we simply are willing to engage and spend at the store.
As an African American business owner, I understand the difficulty of trying to grow a black owned business. It often comes with unique challenges, but a supportive consumer base changes all that. Super Bowl Sunday this weekend gives thousands in the capital city the chance to get out and shop for different items to help prepare for Super Bowl parties and cookouts. It also gives a great opportunity for the residents of north Baton Rouge and those who support economic development happening in north Baton Rouge to go by the Save A Lot store and do your Super Bowl party food shopping.
Doing so allows the business to have a strong opening week of business. The truth is most people will be grabbing a few items from some-where this weekend, I challenge you to make it Save A Lot on Plank Rd. let’s show other developers that it’s worth the investment. Mayor Holden said investors aren’t interested in north Baton Rouge. So, let’s support the developer that chose north Baton Rouge to open a grocery store. Save A Lot may not be your store of choice but supporting its growth will help get other options opened in north Baton Rouge in the future.
