HOUSTON - Sylvester Turner is Houston's new mayor.

The now-former state representative won the Houston mayoral runoff race over former Kemah mayor Bill King 51 percent to 49 percent.

Turner beat King by slightly more than 4,000 votes overall.

"I will do my very, very best to represent every single Houstonian in this city whether you voted for me or not," Turner said. "Tonight we'll enjoy this moment ... and tomorrow when we wake up, we'll start looking at the direction of the city of Houston."

In his concession speech, King congratulated Turner and encouraged his constituents to support the mayor-elect.

"I offered him my assistance in the very difficult challenges our city is facing, and I would encourage all Houstonians to do the same, because we are facing some very trying times over the next couple of years in our city government and he's going to need our support in making sure we get the city back on the right track," King said.

"There is no question he cares a great deal about this city," Turner said of King.

Turner will succeed Annise Parker.

Any Houston bruhs know anything about the new mayor? White folks mad over there?
:pachaha:
Not sure. Me and my people were celebrating this shyt last night. I honestly don't know enough about Sylvester Turner to know if this will help or hurt the black community in Houston. He does move with rarified air though (Sheila Jackson Lee), so i have high hopes.

All I know about dude is he ran for mayor several unsuccessful times. As far as having high hopes, I don't know because oil & gas in Tx has been extremely slow and it might be that way for a while. Out of all the major cities in Tx to suffer, htown is the main that has and will continue to suffer. When oil & gas was booming, boys was living like they would be making that steady income forever. I'm hearing boys down in Htown and East Tx is hurting, foreclosures and repos left and right. With that said, Mayor Turner may take some of the unnecessary blame for boys losing their jobs.
