Today’s the day MARVEL’s first Netflix venture goes public. Daredevil represents the first of four series (to be followed by a miniseries combining them) based on key Marvel Comics characters coming as original programming to Netflix. The others include Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage who will all come later and share the same self-contained shared CONTINUITY based in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. And yes, all of these characters and their stories all take place in the same larger Marvel Cinematic Universe that the movies and ABC TV shows do as well.

As a series shooting and taking place in New York (where Marvel is also headquartered), it’s rather fitting that New York Comic-Con be the host to the show’s very first panel, taking place this afternoon at 5:15 PM – 6:15 PM EST (at Main Stage 1-D in the Javits Center). Here the cast of Daredevil will be joined by showrunner Steve DeKnight and Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb to make some announcements and answer fan questions.

Since production began on Daredevil this summer we hope to see some footage and the first look at Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock suited up in the Daredevil costume. Marvel released the logo for the series recently and Netflix just put up the Daredevil info page on their network with the final design of the logo alongside the plot synopsis for the PROGRAM.

Official Daredevil synopsis:

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey OF ATTORNEY Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

Charlie Cox stars along side Rosario Dawson (we still don’t know who she’s playing), Scott Glenn as Stick, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio as The Kingpin, and Peter Shinkoda as original character Hachiro. In related news, composer John Paesano (Crisis, The Maze Runner) has signed on to score Daredevil.

Stay tuned for more later today as the panel goes live this afternoon! Unfortunately for attendees the Dardevil cast signing was just canceled according to Bleeding Cool because of the growing crowd lining up early. It was getting a little too out of control and having seen the lines for signings and free posters at Marvel’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con, it absolutely is a safety concern. It’s a dangerous area to walk through.

Daredevil premieres on Netflix in May 2015.

More info
Marvel has officially released the first image of Charlie Cox in costume as the blind crime- fighter, as the upcoming Netflix show is currently hosting its first ever panel at New York Comic-Con. Many of you will be quick to point out that this get-up doesn't look anything like Daredevil's normal outfit, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have roots in the comics. Those of you who have read the Daredevil comics written by Frank Miller will recognize this costume from the Daredevil: Man Without Fear comics that were drawn by John Romita Jr. For comparison, you can see a splash of artwork below.

Glad to see the return of the Man without Fear getup. Was a favorite of mine when I read that mini as a kid. I liked how practical it was.
