Chris Tucker’s first stand-up comedy special Chris Tucker Live will premiere exclusively on Netflix on Friday, July 10. Tucker produces through his banner, Chris Tucker Entertainment with Phil Joanou set to direct.

Filmed at the Historic Fox Theatre in Tucker’s hometown of Atlanta, GA, the special will showcase Tucker’s comedic chops, including impersonations, as he shares his experiences from childhood to the big time.

“Chris Tucker is a true global movie star and a one-of-a-kind talent whose remarkable energy, delivery and original style make him one of the funniest comedians of our time,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “We cannot wait to share his distinct and hilarious voice with our members across the globe.”

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Netflix, one of the true global leaders in entertainment, on my first comedy special,” said Chris Tucker. “Before people started seeing me in movies, I was doing standup. It’s always been a part of me, and now I’m excited to share it with my fans around the world.”

Tucker is possibly best known for playing Detective James Carter in the Rush Hour films. He appeared on Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Comedy Jam in the 1990s and landed his first starring role in the 1995 film cult classic Friday opposite Ice Cube.

Chris Tucker Live joins Netflix’s other comedy stand-up specials including Aziz Ansari, Craig Ferguson, Nick Offerman, Chelse Peretti and Chelsea Handler among others.

he was in his def comedyjam days

One good 5 minute set?

I mean don't get me wrong, Tucker is/was very funny (more so as an comedic actor), but besides that one Def Comedy Jam set, post me one video/audio clip of him being funny as a stand up.

Def Comedy Jam in the 90's for black comics was akin to the stand-up boom of the 1980's for white people. It launched one too many people who weren't really funny, and if you go back and watch, all those nikkas jokes were interchangeable.

I know right?

Low key (not really), Chris Tucker isn't a good stand up.
Exactly what I came in to say. He's one of them dudes that's way funnier in movies than in standup. His material was kind of weak but his mannerisms sold it enough to get a laugh. I'll be more excited when/if he drops an actual comedy movie.

Are you implying that luminaries such as Shucky Ducky and Hamburger aren't great comedians?

Man whatever. Def Jam, comicview all had good comics. There were some bad ones, but alot of those ppl were very Funny.

Sure everyone had an OJ joke or a joke about white ppl, but i many of those comedians are still working
