I'm about ready to say fukk cable and just get netflix. I had it a few years a go and ditched it because the online selection wasn't on par with the dvd one. my questions are:

1. Is it all digital now?
2. Is the tv show selection on point?

I'm paying like $150 a month for cable internet phone with comcast but I DVR everything except sports. I don't see the point in having Cable.

It's not all digital. To me there's enough TV shows to dig into to take up alot of viewing time. They might not have some of the shows you like but it's easy to get caught up going through a whole new series on there.

I'd recommend using the site in the spoilers too. I have cable but barely watch it due to Netflix and the site.

what about the overall selection. when i had netflix before there were a lot of movies and shows like the wire that I couldn't watch online. That's the main reason why I scrapped it.

You'll almost never see recent movies and shows one there.

IMO Netflix is great for movies/shows you slept on and foreign flicks and satisfying nostalgia (ex. some cartoon network classics are available for streaming now)

I keep Netflix as a reference mostly. If it has something I haven't seen yet it saves me time and space from downloading.

If you are dropping cable and into TV shows like that then you could just double up with a Netflix sub and a Hulu Plus sub. That would pretty much cover all your TV show needs and only cost a combined $15-16.

I wouldn't drop cable and just go Netflix. Netflix is a good 2nd option if you, get a Roku, Hulu, Apple Tv, and good ol Pc downloads. I hear you with comcast...I'm droppin them too this weekend, and gettin Direct TV, first year is only 40 bucks a month, with 220 chans, Dvr's, Genie, NFL package (1 year), and on demand. I figure I give em a try. Comcast be on that bullish.

It depends entirely on your viewing patterns to be honest. I don't have cable in my home, but I do have internet through charter. For some reason the old tube TV I have in my guestroom picks up cable just phone. The only things I really want to keep up with on cable are Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men (Sparingly), and the Walking Dead.

You will probably want to pick up hulu if there are a bunch of current shows you want to keep up with (or just acquire them from your peers online). If you dig far enough into Netflix though there will be plenty of stuff to keep you entertained. Just from a TV show perspective my wife and I have Friday Night Lights (almost done), House of Cards, The Killing, Damages, Luther, Louie, How I Met Your Mother, Burn Notice, Army Wives, and Battlestar Galactica queued up on Netflix. It will take us at least a year to burn through that (not to mention the other stuff I have on my HDD).

Now that I've started using Netflix it actually annoys me to have to wait a week or whatever to watch an episode of a show. I prefer to wait till its over and then marathon it all the way through. If there is a show on there that you want to watch from a premium station (the wire, sopranos, etc) you should probably just download it (from peers or online). It will still come out cheaper for you in the end.
