Netflix is ordering five new children's series, including a rebooted Inspector Gadget that will debut next month. Like the original cartoon, the new Inspector Gadget follows a bumbling detective outfitted with crazy, high-tech gear that he uses while tracking down a crime syndicate. This series actually appears to be positioned as a sequel, with the original cartoon's villain returning, Gadget being brought out of retirement, and his niece — now somewhat older — in training to fight crime. It also sounds as though she'll get in on more of the gadgets and combat this time around, too. The one big difference between this and the old series is that it's now computer animated, to fairly mediocre results.

The Inspector Gadget reboot already aired in Europe, according to USA Today, but Netflix is bringing it to the US for the first time. Alongside Inspector Gadget, Netflix is also picking up a reboot of Danger Mouse, a British cartoon about a secret agent, who is also a mouse, that parodied spy fiction. The reboot will premiere in spring of 2016, and Stephen Fry is on board to voice Danger Mouse's boss. Additionally, Netflix is picking up two other cartoons: Bottersnikes & Gumbles, a comedy based on an Australian book series; and Super 4, which comes from Playmobil. It's also acquired the live-action show Some Assembly Required, which is about a 14-year-old who runs a toy company.

That's a lot of kids' shows, and it underscores just how strong of a move Netflix has been making into this market. Though Bottersnikes & Gumbles isn't likely to get the kind of publicity that House of Cards does, these series make Netflix a really compelling service for parents of young children to subscribe to. (Amazon is well aware of this as well and has been looking at a number of children's shows for itself.) Netflix has also recently added several series from DreamWorks and a new Richie Rich series. You can see the trailer for that below.

Check out the Danger Mouse trailer for a look at the new Netflix series
Netflix has just brought online a first Danger Mouse trailer, offering a look at their upcoming revival of the hit ’80s animated series. Look for the full series to debut on Netflix this Friday, April 29.

The world’s greatest superspy, Danger Mouse, returns in dashing, globe-spanning style with a new animated series that features all the classic characters, catchphrases and comedy that made it an 80’s cult favorite. With the world once more teetering on the edge of disaster, the small but heroic secret agent is back to thrill a whole new generation of fans as he attempts to overthrow a host of villainous rivals with the help of hapless hamster Penfold and a collection of state-of-the-art gadgetry and vehicles. Originally a loose parody of British spy fiction, this new Danger Mouse series will feature Alexander Armstrong as Danger Mouse, Kevin Eldon as Danger Mouse’s trusty sidekick Penfold, Stephen Fry as Colonel K and Dave Lamb as the narrator. You’ll also find Lena Headey as the voice of US Secret Agent Jeopardy Mouse, with John Oliver supplying the voice of mad scientist wolf Dr.l Augustus P Crumhorn III.

“I wanted to do it [Danger Mouse] because it was pure nostalgia for me,” said Headey when she was announced for the series last year. “I have children now and it’s just a treat to be involved in something that you loved as a kid and be able to share it. Those moments as an actor that come a long once in while are not to be missed.”

“I’ve loved ‘Danger Mouse’ my whole life,” Oliver adds. “Danger Mouse was a significant part of my childhood. So to get a chance to do it is like getting a chance to step into your childhood, which is both a magical and a potentially hazardous thing! It will be awesome, I can’t wait to see it, let alone hear myself in it!”

Looks pretty good, an updated version of the original. They need to bring Mighty Mouse back.
