You're right, but you're also attributing too much to them. The people who voted for Trump didn't "see through" anything, otherwise they wouldn't have been idiots and voted for Trump. He won purely by getting the uneducated male White vote and targeting White Nationalists, not by actually speaking sensibly on global issues. They're reacting to what they know is a bad situation, so at least they got that, but don't give them more credit than they deserve.
