Interesting news article in Russia Today.

NASA starts building faster-than-light warp engine — RT USA

By creating a “warp bubble” that expands space on one side of a spaceship and contracts it on the other, “the spaceship will be pushed away from the Earth and pulled towards a distant star by space-time itself,” Dr. Alcubierre wrote in his hypothesis.
Dr. White is trying to warp the trajectory of a photon to see if he can propel its travel at faster-than-light speeds. His laboratory floats above a system of underground pneumatic piers and was constructed in a way that it would be free from seismic disturbances, since his team’s measuring devices can pick up the smallest vibrations – even those created from people who are walking nearby.
Dr. White told the New York Times that since nature can travel at warp speeds, there is a chance that humans can figure out how to do it too.

Interesting.

This will only be done on an atomic level or does he believe he can actually create at a ship that can accomplish this. That's the real trick.

wouldn't that make time travel possible?

time would go slower for you and by time you come back people will have aged, right?

Like I could travel in space for a month....come back and everyone on earth is a year older.

Must mean we had devices that can travel at the speed of light for decades

Yeah, seems like a lot of laws could get broken if this is even possible.

And how exactly do they plan to make the warp bubble? Are they hoping to displace empty space :mindblown:

people that come back from space missions are not as aged as if they had been on earth like by minutes or so....that's been proven.

a lot of good things could benefit the rich. Catch cancer and go away for 20days, which is 20years on earth and maybe you are cured....but imagine the fuccerky and mess this would cause in society though.....

imagine people with investments. this could really have bad consequences even by accident.

You can only go forward in time friend, not back. Well unless you teleport a mirror trillions of light years away and then look at the reflection from earth, using a telescope. :whoo:

But thats relative, friend. :youngsabo:

yeah...I was only talking about going forward in time. I don't know how far you can go....but minutes are a reality from space missions as the occur now in days. Everyone comes back from a year long mission a little younger than if they stayed on earth the same amount of time....you age slower relatively.

No, time moves forward whether it slow in space or fast on earth. You can't go back.. If you catch cancer and you have one month to live, you will live for one month in space. It's that on Earth, if they had a monitor to check your time of death, it would register you as dead a year later.

If you had people making investments on earth and then going to space and back, you still return to earth in the future, not the past.

If they create a device that can travel at these speeds.. What about space debris and artifacts that can cause damage to that device???
