Funny, every time I see this song in a thread after I :wow:at how dope the song is, my thoughts almost immediately switches to what the hell did he mean by "you'll be alright like blood money in a pimp's cum"again?:jbhmm: Song might be the GOAT contender for interspersed quotables. It's arguable that album is better than Illmatic.

Nas had verified the bar on Genius

Nas was inspired by reading Donald Goines and Robert Beck aka “Iceberg Slim”’s accounts of the pimp life in the 40s and 50s when he wrote this line

To be clear, “blood money” is money that gets handed down to future generations of a family, hence the pimp’s cum, which is the future generation (the receiver of the blood money). .

I’m glad this thread is about the actual song and not that pedo Coli poster who besmirched its good name. So glad he’s banned now. :scust:

Definitely my favorite Nas track. :wow:

The flipped the sample well here:

I've really been feeling WDM as of late...the visuals Nas paints on the 2nd verse :ohlawd:

Nas was rapping Scorsese mob flicks man:wow:
Trackmasters were on a different level in the 90s.

To dig that deep into the crates to find this sample is just. :banderas:

Nas, The Firm, Biggie, LL Cool J, Foxy, Mary J, Jay Z, Will Smith… that whole era of their production was insane. I know they’re eating good with the amount of classics they made.

Huh? Explain because I was kid during that era so I don’t remember…. Did they get hate for making mainstream hits with Will Smith? :jbhmm:
They got shytted on for having a sound that was polished. It's the main reason Nas got hate for working with them on IWW. People cared more about him working with them than actually listening to the beats themselves.
