Review was for the O.G. not the rushed finished version we got.
My least favorite Nas album,
I thought like 50% of the beats sucked
No it wasn't. Someone scanned the review and the review aligns with the retail version of the album. Nastradamus was the rushed album.
Over the years, the narrative shifted. I remember I Am actually being touted as Nas's 2nd best album, but Stillmatic changed that. Nas acquired new fans and people went back and listened. In the mix, It Was Written was viewed in a more favorable light from new Nas fans and some of the older day one fans were warning up to it.
The review was of the original version of the album. Even then, most albums didn’t have all the songs on it and wasn’t fully sequences etc when The Source and other magazines did their reviews. They had to do it months ahead of release because of printing the mag.
It was not for the retail... they talked about blaze a 50 in the review I believe.
