I aint gon lie this track is their worst collab
What, no way. This is waaaay better than that orchestra track they did.

I would say this is better than Come Get Me too.

I think they already set the bar really high because they have some incredible tracks together but this track is dope. Simple but dope

I'll give you the Orchestra record as their worst joint though musically it was still dope but I think "Come and Get Me" is definitely better though I'd say it's early for "Define My Name". Who knows how I will feel later but I lived with "Come and Get Me" too long. NaS slaughter that joint and it's low-key a diss record too. It's also the same exact sample from "N.I.@.@.E.R.", so it was dope he came back and rapped different part of the sample.

Not better than Come Get Me.

Agree but I can't compare 50 year old Nas and 58 year old Premier to the 1998/1999 versions of themselves when they were in their primes and superior. This track has grown on me a bit. I'm gonna give it the whip test this weekend, I'm sure it's gonna knock. But I can't judge the track based on what we could have gotten in 1999, 2002, 2003, or any other year where this mythical paring could have happened when we wanted it.

I just want faster bpm drums and some sound diversity from Premo. Nas is going to do his thing. Give that man a break beat, PLEASE for the love of god Premo.

The orchestra record was called Regeneration and i LOVE that joint. “Every song i’ve written/Make the Sky clear blue like the beginning scenes of the Simpsons” thats my shyt.

I think Come Get Me is just “ok” so that by default makes it the “worst” Premo/Nas joint. I definitely think Define My Name is better than both

the bar is raised. justifiably so. it's the arguable GOAT MC and the arguable GOAT producer. two of the most important pioneers in hip hop history. fans have literally been asking for this project since what... it was written?

re: royce... i think premiere delivered on both prhyme albums. that said, i do think a big reason preem 100% did not sound dated on prhyme is the unique setup of the projects, with preeme being forced to exclusively sample two young, original composers that were heavily influenced by his best work (and equipped to give him fantastic soundbeds to work from as a result).

premiere still has moments that make you go :ohhh: :damn::blessed:. but he also has lots of moments where his sound feels stuck in 1998. it's been that way for a long time. this happens to all producers though, and i can live with it so long as it sounds like the best possible version of 1998.

like i said, my real issue is that premiere should have a vault of shyt he was saving just for this album. he had literal decades to prep, and he was 100% the weakest part of that first single. from the beat to the hook.

Premier doesn't work like that. When you pay for a beat it's tailor made for the artist. You don't get sent beat tapes.

If he has any beats laying around they're beats made for someone else but they passed on it. Devil's Pie is the only story like that I'm familiar with.

I think people just need to relax and wait for the album. Let Primo get into a groove and he'll put it all together. The beats just need to be on the level of that last Gangstarr album and he'll be fine.
