Took down my locs and cut like 4 inches of my hair. About the same length as my avi (but finer and softer)

Any tips on how I can eventually get that curly goddess big hair look without resorting to weave as a protective style? I've posted a pic of my big ass afro before so growing hair isn't a problem. However, the natural hair game has changed and I'm out of the loop.
