Ray Robinson
Floyd Mayweather
Ray Leonard
Ali
James Toney
Jack Johnson
Bernard Hopkins
Pernell Whitaker
Willie Pep
Roy Jones
From boxers that I've seen this is how i would rank them from Best to least best in terms of skill or at least thats how i interpret history of Science which to me means "Hit and dont get hit" or "Dont get hit and Hit", either one works.
I got James Toney 5th, going off pure skills. Had he been more disciplined during his prime he woulda had an even more legendary career
Hopkins is very skilled but not quite as much technically as Toney or Mayweather. Hopkins just understands the rules of the sport and knows how to bend them, hes a dirty fighter but most boxers on this list were
If Whitaker wanted too he coulda been a modern day Willie Pep but he chose to fight more aggressively then a Floyd Mayweather or Bernard Hopkins. He would get on the inside and trade at times leaving himself more open to punches but he wanted to fight this way, he was willing to take the punches to get to the body early and then would go for the head later in fights
Roy Jones was possibly the most amazing fighter ever in his prime but I think he was the youngest fighter to be exposed on this list. After coming down from Heavyweight, Roy was knocked out by Glen johnson and Tarver. He was more reflexes then skill in his prime defensively, and once the reflexes slowed down we saw what happened. I also think his work rate really slowed down which became his biggest problem, he still had really fast hands in his mid 30's and even late 30's.
