Carmen: A HipHop Opera
Pre-911, there was a lack of black TV movies circa 1999-01. Sure, we had Brandy as Cinderella, Halle Berry playing Dorothy Dandridge and Having our Say the Delany Sisters story which is a great film by the way starring Ruby Dee as Dianne Carroll.
But when 106 n Park with Aj and Free announced Beyonce was playing Carmen Jones, we were happy!!!
We had our VCR set to record, mother made nachos and root beer floats and 15 mins into the movie, I went to bed due to the itis. And I remember waking up to Wycleaf playing a Caribbean fortunate teller singing to Beyonce oops Carmen about her fate because "the cards never lie".
The original is a classic
but the hiphop version was ok

I've seen this movie so many times I can literally tell you word for word the opening 10-15 minutes.
