Work in IT. He had a heart attack 2 weeks ago, was in hospital for a couple days and came back on Tuesday. Today he told me he just put his 2 weeks in. So soon I'll be the only one in this department.

What are my chances of getting a big raise? I don't want his job, but i don't want to squander this opportunity.

If you're taking on any of his roles ask for acting pay if you don't want the job directly. Then if you can negotiate your salary, next time you have something to bring to the table.

I'm not a system admin and I don't want to be one. Stupid fukking job overall, but i know for a fact that they will want me to take on his roles in the mean time.

I don't know as much as he does. He's been here 12 years, been in IT for over 20. We pretty much wear multiple hats in this position. I'm not running from responsibility but I refuse to continue what he does without the pay.

They wanted me to take his position but I didnt want the stress and poltical headache, but I thought if I didnt take it then they would never offer it to me again

High end furniture store, small IT department, exists across the nation. Most IT related things were handled between us, some of the stores away from our state we outsourced a few things like hardware replacement.

What’s your job title and what systems are you responsible/have access to ? It’s very strange that the IT manager has a two week notice. Normally the notice period is months for positions like that.
