NY rappers such as DMX and Ja Rule.

When we talk about NY rap out here, usually the first names that come up are Biggie, NAS and Jay-Z. Let's not forget Ja Rule and DMX held it down for hip-hop for awhile. But most 2Pac fans feel like they were clones of him. I really never cared for either rapper but I'm curious what Coli posters from the WEST thought of them on first sight.

Yeah there were people on the westcoast salty calling DMX a Tupac clone, I do remember that. Mainly people who were very much 'westcoast only' types. I really liked DMX's singles and was into a lot of Eastcoast Hip Hop around then.

I don't think anyone really paid much attention to Ja Rule on the westcoast until he started to completely dominate all the hip hop and top 40 stations in the areas.

Didn't seem like a Pac Clone to me but he was the first East Coast Rapper I looked forward to his adlibs (Bark, Growl) The Get At Me Dog video was one of the grittiest videos I've seen from the east in a long time and I became a fan then. I was a big ONYX fan and X reminded me more of them. Knew a wigger back in high school that hyped him up bigger than anyone but dissected the fukk out of his first album :what:

Ja Rule was just a cheap clone of DMX but everyone I knew at the time fukked with Ja so much it was disgusting. I tried to get into his shyt for he had some decent tracks but I couldn't get past his cookie monster delivery and his hood fantasy lyrics. He was Rick Ross before Rick Ross but he was far from convincing . I really wanted someone to fukk up his career before 50 came through and crushed the buildings .

That's why I was a 50/G-Unit fan hard during that time mostly because I was just happy someone buried Ja :manny:

Ima admit I hated on DMX. Couldn't stand that nikka.... until I heard him in a interview years later and realized he's a real dude. I bought Ja's first album off the fact that I had seen that Holla holla video with Ms Velez 1000 x. Never liked Ja's shyt though. I thought that they both jumped on that overly thug bandwagon that Pac had laid out, which was wack to me
