MPC REN Software has a DEMO mode, controller not needed.

You can download the update from Akai's website, and install it even if you don't have the Ren. You'll have just the standalone app, without the content, but you will only be able to use it in demo mode(it overlays noise from time to time on the master bus and it has SAVE / EXPORT disabled). I've used Soundflower as an output for resampling stuff in Maschine

I played with it for about an hour or so. I believe with the hardware it's better than Maschine at layering drums per pad, and making keygroups (MPC with JJOS was better too), but overall, It doesn't come close to Maschine.

Major major plus: Midi out has settings for Port, Channel, Program changes, CC.. the whole shabang ! Haven't tried routing MIDI internally though.

Also a major plus (MPC 1000 had that too) is the ability to use tracks. For instance you have a kit playing the beat, and on Track2 you have the same kit playing the percussions. This allows you to create build-ups without duplicating patterns.

Software is piff, they better hope someone doesn't crack that shyt before the studio drops.
