Am I pouring jelly on myself by going MicroATX?

Planning to build a gaming PC but don’t want the case/tower to be big as fukk.

Going with an AMD setup (CPU/GPU) AM5 motherboard.

With the death of HTPCs a MicroATX isn’t worth it. The beefy graphics cards are too large for that. I remember when I used to build MicroATX PCs. It was a pain if you ever had to go inside them.

at the very least get a regular ATX or a mini, like I have.

nothing wrong with matx imo, almost nobody uses the extra pcie/ram slots anyway and lots of matx boards have two m2 slots. i pick mobos based solely on non size/aesthetic features and end up with a matx one for most of my builds. they're not super annoying to work on or anything. i always run a huge tower tho so ymmv if you're getting a small case. tbh how often are you gonna be poking around in there tho?

If I were you I'd figure out what gpu I'm getting first. That way you'd know how much clearance you'd need to fit it in a case which will let you decide on what case you're getting. Just get the smallest case that will fit your components with decent airflow.
If your case is big enough to support ATX I'd go ATX. If it can only support micro atx or smaller I'd go with that.

$400…maybe push to $450.

Honestly, I’d be more interested in playing in 1080 at high frame rate. Maybe dabble in 1440 60Hz or 120Hz on occasion.

6700 xt is more than enough for 1080p you could probably even go 6600 xt if you want to save even more. When you say dabble in 1440p do you plan on getting a 1440p monitor?

Yeah if you getting that you playing 1440p fasho
1080p games on a 1440p monitor will look small.
6700 xt should hold you over you'd get 60 fps in every modern game on high settings with RT turned off

I'd recommend taking a look at pc part picker and look at some of the compact gaming build that use a 6700 xt then just buy the case they use

You can make a small for factor PC and it'll be just as fine. Just make sure that you have proper cooling and wire management for it
