So we got this street fighter movie thread poppin' talking about the movie and it's turned into an appreciation for the comedic sensibility of it but now I think we need a thread dedicated to, in my arrogant opinion, the best video game adaptation put to screen: Mortal Kombat. Not that trash ass sequel from 97 but the first from 95.

Seeing this on opening night around the way is one of those things I will never forget. My homie's dad drove us, we sat in the back of his pickup truck, being silly ass 9 year olds and the theater was packed when we got there. A bunch of people in the crowd clapping and yelling like we were seeing real fights..young dudes, old dudes, parents wondering what in the hell did they drag their kids to..Nikkas losing their shyt when Scorpion and Sub-Zero popped out to squad up for Shang Tsung..It's one of several movies I can watch now and regardless of my nostalgic experience seeing it on the first day, I think it's a good flick. If you're watching it with fresh eyes now you may balk at the 95 CGI but the shyt is done well. It's a supernatural Enter the Dragon, what more could you ask for?

I saw this shyt 3 times in the theater.

When this shyt hit....

:whoo::gladbron::ohhh::whew::wow::blessed:

^ That was me at 10 years old.

When I got this shyt on home video I watched it like almost every day. I would be doin my homework to it and shyt.:pachaha:

But let's be real the shyt is trash. I'm not 10 anymore. No way would I even remotely consider it a solid flick. The 2nd time I saw it in the theater I had to drag my uncle with me. 5 minutes in and you know he must've been like:snoop:.

:pachaha:

I'll still watch it though from time to time if I catch it on TV.

That second one though :huhldup:.

Still watched it like 20 times

I remember as a kid really being into the MK story... like more so than any other video game. I used to love skimming through the instruction manuals, lookin at the artwork, readin all the character bios:wow:, etc.

:lupe: When MK2 dropped and you found out that Shang Tsung had a master.

Idgaf what y'all think, but Johnny Cage was the star of that movie. While Liu Kang was off fighting jobbers, sparring with Kitana, and throwing buckets of water at Sub Zero.... This dude fought Scorpion in the netherrealm, and had to face off against Goro.

Christopher Lambert as Raiden was :wow:

When the lizard took over the statue and you heard the announcer say "Reptile" then that theme hit :ohlawd:

The mortal kombat song might be the goat work out amped up song ever.

If I was a professional fighter id walk into the arena with that on

If I was a soldier about to go to war id be listening to that on

If I'm washing my car I have that on

When I'm taking a shower and soaping my body and I hear that I feel like I am about to fight

If I wanted to have a nikka moment id run up to random nikkas and yell to them "TEST YOUR MIGHT" :damn:
"CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY" :damn:
"MORTAL KOMBAT" :damn:
"FINISH HIM" :damn:

When I see someone stumble/trip or drop stuff you'll hear me say

"WHOOPSIE" :damn:

Song gives me chills and goosebumps but such an adrenaline rush

:wow: :banderas:

I remember when I was a kid my older cousin used to lock me in my room with the lights off and he had the mortal kombat poster on the wall you know the dragon one and man I couldn't even touch the switch because I was so scared of the poster :to: the good ol times of actually being scared I was like 5-6 years old

Now that I look at it, it was cheesy as fukk for the announcer to say "Reptile." But back in '95, the whole theater went CRAZY and I couldn't get enough of that movie

Yeah I agree, the goat video game movie. And the first time I went to the movies and the crowd was just hype the entire time. So many moments where the audience couldn't contain themselves. Movie is just straight up classic.

Shyt is heat rocks. It streamlined the mortal kombat mythology into an workable movie. When that announcer said "reptile" yes the entire theater lost their shyt. And he was giving Liu that work.

Johnny Cage: kitana went this way. I can smell her perfume.

Oh and let's talk about Kitana. Yes Lord. :wow::noah:

This whole post x10 :salute:

If there was ever a movie that needed some sort of remake or something, I think that would be dope. They had the different version for the internet direct or TV or whatever, but a proper remake would be :salute:
