Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Boyz N The Hood star Morris Chestnut has created a bit of a speculation storm when he tweeted a photo of a Black Panther cover with the comment "It's time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!" That in and of itself means little, but the fact that he, in short order, took the tweet down says that it's more than just an actor deciding to read up on some Marvel characters.
Is he going to play T'Challa or is it all a crazy mix-em-up? Well, he sent out another tweet today that reads thusly:
Not final. #BlackPanther may be in #avengers2 first. RT @jamaal91604133: @morris_chestnut Can't wait to see this movie. #BlackPanther

I could think of at least three actors whom i'd rather see take on the role of T'Challa (Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejifor, and Michael J. White) however, Morris Chestnut is a pretty good actor. The question is does he have the range and depth to pull off the fierce nobility of T'challa and bring to the screen the sense of charisma, determination, pride, and heroism that The Black Panther character exudes.
Black Panther is my favorite superhero, here's to hoping that Joss Whedon has a good grasp on the character and doesn't try to "Batman" him portray him as some sort of dark anti-hero (which is a common misperception of the character) and that he isn't shoehorned into the Avengers sequel JUST for nerd candy purposes. This character has the potential to be one of the greatest on-screen superheroes ever, with all of his complexity and gravitas done right.
What do you think? Does Morris Chestnut have the chops to play T'Challa?
