More than 60 chihuahuas that were found living in two cars in a garage with their owner are on their way to finding forever homes.

Animal rescuer and owner of the Lorena, Texas, pet adoption service Save A Tiny Adoptables Sheenna Trahan described the conditions under which she found 63 chihuahuas living to NBC 10 WJAR.

"There was no running water, there’s no electricity at the home, and then again, neither vehicle worked,” she said of the home she visited in mid-January, where the owner lived with the chihuahuas in vehicles parked in a garage.

Trahan called the situation she discovered in Comanche, Texas, "nasty" but said that the unnamed owner was hesitant to leave the dogs until she found a rescue that would take all of them.

“If we could not have gotten all these dogs out of there, she would have stayed right there with them and they would have just probably all died in the vehicles together,” Trahan said. Some of the dogs were reportedly let out of the vehicles to walk at times, but others had reportedly spent their entire lives up until their rescue in the vehicles.

Upon their rescue, the dogs, who hadn't received medical care or vaccinations, were checked and some had fleas, but they were otherwise found to be in good health despite their previous living conditions.

Some of the dogs are being medically evaluated before being sent to one of several pet rescue locations across the country including Rhode Home Rescue in Rhode Island. It called the conditions that the dogs were rescued from "horrendous" in a News 14 article.

I'm happy that they were all okay. I have a part Chihuahua and I love her so much...I'd be upset if she was living like that.

She's so smart and energetic and just adores attention from me or my wife. Seeing that pic of them made me feel bad, but I was happy to hear that they weren't being beaten or malnourished
