I'm not a big movie dude but since I've quit certain habits, I've found myself with a longer attention span. I love the style of this movie and I was wondering, is it an anamoly? Are there other sort of self aware flicks that talk about serious subjects? Or is that a lane Adam Mckay has created?

I'd love to watch a few more like that because that jawn was flames.

Too Big to Fail
Margin Call
The Social Network
Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender)
The Woman in Gold

Just to name a few. They're all slightly pretentious high brow films in the same vein as The Big Short.
I think he's talking about the frantic and meta editing of The Big Short. They had a cameo of a naked woman in a tub explaining economics, for example. None of those movies you mentioned are anything like that. Steve Jobs is just one long movie of dialogue.

I was giving him serious movies. If he wants the bolded, I can't think of any. Maybe the Wolf of Wall Street but, that's not a serious movie.

There's really nothing like the big short.

The fact it took such an uninteresting and confusing subject matter for the average person and made it understandable and interesting was amazing.

It's a 10/10 film

Wolf of wall street is nothing like it. They just skipped all the details on wolf of wall street and jam packed it full of drug usage.

Word. Im kinda look for both of the types that were described. I've never seen a movie quite like this and it's rare to see something this inspiring and informative.

You might like War Dogs. It's a very serious subject (arms dealings for governments and corporations) but it's edited in a way that sort of reminded me of The Big Short (and Wolf of Wallstreet). It's still in theaters though.

Speaking of that, Lord of War is like the more serious (with some few good comedic moments) and grounded version of War Dogs and probably Nicolas Cage's best film. Might be too dark though in terms of comparing it to the tone of The Big Short but its one of the best Ive ever seen...

Wolf of Wall Street didn't skip the details they just treated the audience like the general public. We know you don't really care about the details of this industry because if you did financial institutions would never get away with it.

What you typed didn't even make sense .

You're saying they didn't skip the details while then saying. ....they skipped the details.

Funny you say that as Wolf of Wall Street is the most serious movie of all the ones listed.

It may be the only one that treats its viewers as adults. It may be the only one that doesn't act as a moral op-ed piece.

It does not, however, provide too much information about finance itself. Though I'd argue that the Big Short does a poor job of that as well.

Too Big To Fail and Margin Call aren't bad, I would definitely give those a chance.

If you're serious though...

Money, Power, and Wall Street
Money, Power and Wall Street

along with its supplementary docs:

The Warning

To Catch a Trader

The Untouchables

Six Billion Dollar Bet

There are no substitutes for those.

They gave more of an overview is what I meant. Matthew McConaughey just gave the basics. No one knows where the market is going least of all a stock broker, anyone listening to them for advice is either not that bright or greedy. And regardless of a stockbrokers' advice being good or bad they collecting commission off of you anyway. It's a scam from jumpstreet. And Leo patronizes the audience the rest of the movie by just saying you won't understand even if I describe the process just trust me when I say it was illegal.
