First ep was great, looking forward to catching up soon. Right off the bat it throws you deep into some heavy genre shyt you don't see much anymore. There are no attempts to modernize the tropes either, it's straight up hardboiled detective fare.

Eh.. emerging emphysema is an attempt to modernize, them conference room lizards were going to get some of their agenda In with this story and plot they pulled out their ass

The "defective detective" is a pretty common trope, especially for older detectives like this. The detective who is trying to quit alcohol, or has cancer, or is an addict of some type etc.

Haven't seen tonight's ep yet but last week's was amazing. Show keeps getting better. I'm gonna be bummed when this ends. The French countryside setting is just so captivating to me.

The show hits the gas around ep 3 or so. Everything out of every characters mouth after he interrogates the soldier is a bar. Once they finish setting up the players and just let them run into each other they've been killing it.
