It seems the idea of monarchy is deemed primitive and unproductive to most people, religous ones specifically, but is accepted and praised when it comes to historical texts (the Bible specifically) why is this?

The past must be accepted...

and as for the praise, I dont think it was the monarchy itself being praised... I could be wrong though.

historically the most stable sovereignties have been empires/monarchies. we all praise democracy because of the voice it gives us, but again, historically all republics/democracies have been crushed by more traditional kings/empires. America is really the first massive nation to maintain democratic principles....at least on the surface. We'll see how long it lasts.

edit: with that being said, the few examples in history that were republican/democratic are praised even higher, it seems. The Roman Republic, The Greek Democracies, the Dutch Republic, the Iroquois Confederacy, etc.

Monarchies aren't praised in the Bible. The Israelites felt they needed a central form of gov't. to deal with their enemies (the Philistines) and to deal with the issue of succession since the political/religious leadership was imperiled due to the deaths of the chief priest's sons and himself (Eli). Reading Judges and 1 & 2 Samuel will give you an idea as to what that period of time was like. Ultimately, the institution of monarchy was disastrous to the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah.
