mixing help....bass and kick drum ?

how can i get a good clean sound on both without muddying up the mix?

i try to cut frequencies and make room but it either ends up making my kick sound flat, or my bass only sounds low end. i hear some beats by pros and it seems like the kick can have a deep thump without clashing with the bass. how is this possible ? do i need pro tools or somethin ???

Well where are you cutting frequencies

i usually use parametric EQ and cut the bass where my kick is hitting the hardest, but that seems to cut the part of the bass you can actually hear

Pick different kick drumsounds.

What type of bass are you using first and foremost? Do you have this problem with all kickdrum sounds?
