"Academy Award nominee and well-respected thespian John Malkovich is an eerie, incarcerated serial killer known as The Artist in this exclusive clip from the upcoming thriller, Mindcage. Directed by Mauro Borrelli and written by Reggie Keyohara III, Mindcage stars Martin Lawrence and Melissa Roxburgh alongside Malkovich, with the movie finding Lawrence playing a dramatic role for the first time in his career.

Malkovich looks to be thoroughly enjoying himself as The Artist, as he oozes the hyper-intelligence, sinister manner, and compelling charm (all while taking nibbles out of the scenery) in that utterly magnetic way that only John Malkovich can.

Coming courtesy of Lionsgate and directed by Mauro Borrelli, Mindcage begins as these murder mysteries so often do – with a copycat killer. When this copycat murderer strikes, Detectives Jake Doyle and Mary Kelly must seek help from an incarcerated serial killer known as "the Artist". As Mary delves deep into the Artist's brilliant but twisted psyche, she and Jake get lured into a diabolical game of cat and mouse, racing against time to stay one step ahead of both The Artist and his copycat.

Described by the studio as a “spellbinding thriller,” Mindcage is led by Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys for Life) as Detective Jake Doyle, Melissa Roxburgh (The Tomorrow People, Manifest) as Detective Mary Kelly, and John Malkovich (Burn After Reading, Con Air) as the Artist. The rest of the cast includes the likes of Robert Knepper (Prison Break, Transporter 3), Jacob Grodnik (The Fanatic), Aiden Turner (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Jeremy Turner (Freedom's Path).

Mindcage Marks the First Non-Comedic Role for Martin Lawrence

Alongside the excitement of seeing John Malkovich as a manipulative and sadistic serial killer, Mindcage has the honor of marking the first non-comedic role for well-known comedy actor Martin Lawrence. Best recognized for displaying his comedic chops in the likes of such hits as Nothing to Lose, Blue Streak, Life, Black Knight, and the Big Momma's House franchise on the big screen, as well as Martin, Partners, and various other sitcoms on the small screen, Martin Lawrence has never strayed too far away from the comedy genre. But that’s all about to change in Mindcage, as Lawrence takes on the role of the super-serious and seriously tortured Detective Jake Doyle. And, from what has been shown of Mindcage so far, it looks like the perfect fit for the actor.

Of course, this will be far from the first time that Martin Lawrence has been on the side of law and order and solving crimes as a detective, with the actor having starred as Detective Lieutenant Marcus Miles Burnett alongside Will Smith as Detective Lieutenant Michael Eugene 'Mike' Lowrey throughout the hugely popular Bad Boys franchise. The pair made their triumphant return as the titular Bad Boys in 2020’s Bad Boys for Life, with a fourth installment currently in early development.

Mindcage is scheduled for a release through VOD and in select theaters on December 16, 2022."
