If someone would've asked me, I would have said he died years ago.


I always thought it was strange how such a monumental world figure who was lauded in the west as a great statesman during the 80s and early 90s completely slipped into obscurity.

I would have expected him to spend his later years writing books, giving talks, being part of various international forums and organizations, making his voice heard, etc.

He wasn’t a big fan of the current leadership. Being too outspoken may have been a death sentence. I imagine he wanted to spend the rest of his days in peace after such a momentous life.
