I'm surprised no one here is discussing this fukkery :wtf:

LANSING, MICH. (CNNMoney)
As protesters descended on the Michigan Statehouse Tuesday, legislators passed a controversial "right-to-work" measure that would weaken unions' power.
The House approved two bills, which the Senate already passed last week. Both chambers are dominated by Republicans.
Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, has said he will sign the legislation, which would allow workers at union-represented employers to forgo paying dues.
Thousands of people, many of them union workers, gathered outside the statehouse, chanting and holding signs as snow fell. At least three schools were closed as teachers traveled to Lansing to protest.
There are 23 states which have right-to-work laws, mostly in the South and western plains states, where union membership is relatively weak. Nationwide, union membership stands at 11.8%.

Michigan, the birthplace of the United Auto Workers where 17.5% of employees are represented by unions, would be by far the most heavily unionized state to pass such legislation. It would join neighboring Indiana in converting to right-to-work this year.
"It would devastate the workers," UAW President Bob King told CNN Tuesday morning. "We're worried about all workers in the state of Michigan."
Advocates of the bill say it will help attract businesses to the state, but critics say that it would weaken labor's bargaining strength by cutting union financial resources without doing anything to bring in more jobs.

Employees in right-to-work states have lower wages, on average, than their counterparts elsewhere, according to Richard Hurd, professor of labor studies at the ILR School at Cornell University. That's because the unions are weaker in those states and aren't as effective in bargaining for higher wages.
The average full-time, full-year worker in a right-to-work state makes about $1,500 less annually, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning organization. The rate of workers covered by employer-sponsored health insurance is 2.6 percentage points lower, while pension coverage is 4.8 percentage points lower.

The measure's passage would symbolize the declining fortunes of the nation's once powerful union movement. Only four states have passed right-to-work laws since the 1960s.
"If right-to-work passes in Michigan, it demonstrates the weakness of the labor movement," Hurd said. "If it can happen in Michigan, there's a feeling it can happen anywhere."

do you think this would encourage job growth or just make it easier for bosses to pay there workers lower wages.

I see it as a bit of both but I can see employers taking advantage of this situation.

Out of every state in nation, how did this sh1t pass in Michigan? MI is the Union state.

Everyone wants to protest now, but people should have voted correctly and for the right people. Conservative voters care so much about social issues and hating liberals, that they will harm their own families by voting for something that's going to make their teachers not give a fck, and make them get paid sh1t for hard labor.

Its bad news all around. They say its going to create jobs and encourage ppl to open shop in Mich. What that means, it will create low paying jobs with no benefits. They will open up shop in Mich knowing the risk of their works opting for a labor union will be much lower. Other right to work states are some of the poorest, most being Southern states.

This law is really at a its core a way for the people to destroy them selves. It lets the rich man look like the good guy and workers and unions again to be "bad". While it doesnt force you to join the union and pay dues. It foces the union to still work and afford you all the rights and benefits they offer.

Once you get enough ppl willing to take and take and not pay back, it will collapse onto it self. Then thats when the owners come in and crush your pay and benefits down to nothing and say :laff: :laff:

You dudes keep buying Jap shyt and supporting anti union sentiments. Even tho your fathers and grandfather, and uncles were all apart of one most likely. They are the reason your employer was forced to give you a 8hr workday, holiday pay and benefits and vacation. Safe working condtions and all the things WE should have as workers.

Look at the job market now. So many jobs have been turned into part time work to avoid having to pay benefits and other shyt. Alot of places wont even let you get 40hrs a week. They wont give you any benefits unless you pay for them with your all ready low wages.

But yes, the unions are the "bad guys". These rich CACs fooled you simple ass negros easy.

Now a guy making 25$ a hr is bad and not the rich cacs making billions and screwing over there workers every chance they get.

Instead of saying damn, why am i not getting at least 20$/hr ?
They turned you into saying " why is he making 20$/hr , he shouldnt be making that much.

Now we believe its ok to pay 7 bucks an hour becuz a job is unskilled or require no schooling. Naw, they should be making at least 12-14 an hr, I dont care if its fast food or retail

damn yall got it so wrong....

What unions need to ask themselves here is. . . Who the is the government to label and tell them that they can not assemble as free people, and negotiate with businesses as to what their wages and conditions should be.

Raise hell.

So you concede right to work status will result in more jobs?

Maybe part of the reason people are getting less hours is because of the burdens place on companies when a worker is full time? :ld:

So I guess the unions have to work for free now. A lot of stuff goes down with the unions and they need money to handle business for their employees. Now the state wants to dry the unions out and make them powerless. It's bogus as hell.

:ohhh:

Is there a way to fight back against legislation passed, by those, who the people voted in?

Obvious :troll: but... I guess I should have said. The bill ensures that the only jobs created in the future are low paying ones.

The unions are still forced to represent and provide services to the no union employees as I said.

So now its a burden to give ppl a fair wage and benefits .

They got you trained good.

A low paying job is better than no job

Maybe insteading of paying us. The employer could give us a place to live and some food each week.

this is the attitude the elite want you to have. fukk how you are living . Just happy for a few crumbs and scraps off their plate. Disgusting you feel that that's OK.

fuk it i'm of the opinion that shyt like this needs to happen and dems need to make sure the resulting consequences STICK to the GOP like funk on a skunk.

Voters need to wake the fuk up to what's really up. Things like this are what's going to do it. Let it pass. Let their pay get cut, their hours get cut, their benefits get cut. When the next election cycle comes around they just need to be reminded of who did this to them and maybe, just maybe, things will change.
