Yes I am a little high but just thinking how did the nikkas of the past initially deal with Michael Jackson going from black to white? I mean one day a nikka you knew that was black suddenly comes out and well his now white. It wasn’t like he even came on some “allow me to reintroduce myself” nikka was just silent and tried to play it off. Weren’t people tripping on some :ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown:. Anyone around during that era? What was your initial thoughts and how did people of that era react to the change?

This was the closest I could find:

Imagine if Twitter was around back then. The clowning would’ve been immense. He’s still the king though but damn he had issues.

Even Jermaine made a diss track about him turning white.

A longer news special on the Bad release.

Dam reactions were tame compared to what they would have been today. This would have been prime diner table discussion in this day and age.

He was the biggest artist in the world possibly in history, people that didn't speak a word of english were fainting at his concerts.
MJ turning himself in to a white person was a hard pill to swallow so it was easier to make excuses for the goat
...he has vitiligo, he suffered hair and nose damage in the pepsi fire etc
I mean breh adopted 100% white children and left them his entire inheritance

it is what it is:yeshrug:

Nah I remember a lot of people saying he was just crazy most of the time. Some people like my parents knew of his skin condition and gave him a pass. He got it the worst mainly from comedians they would go in on him, he did give them a lot of ammo to do so though. But still whenever he performed did an interview or had an album come out everybody always took notice.

Yeah. I would love to hear from the older crowd on here. I was just a twinkle in my dad’s eye when Bad came out so I can only go by my parent’s/sibling’s second hand information.

There definitely was a lot of controversy over him turning white and his nose job. He didn’t address it publicly until 1993 with Oprah though.

CACs definitely started to turn on him though, once he bought the Beatles catalogue. This is was where “Wacko Jacko” was birthed from in the UK. As the black journalist said in the second video I posted, they didn’t like that a negro controlled something so sacred to the Brits.

From what I've read there were talks about his surgery in the media but Mike just ignored those questions but it was an open secret.

In regards to his skin color I don't find anyone who openly shyt on his skin color.

Even Eddie Murphy in Raw chose to go a different route in joking about Mike at that time by not mentioning his skin color.

But I'm curious as well.

Eddie actually did but it was from an unreleased tour:

4:50 onwards. Paul Mooney went in on him earlier in the show.

Nelson George had a terrible take in that last video :mjlol:

Said he'd eventually lose his black audience which is the base of his appeal..

:mjlol:

Mike by that time transcended race..he didn't need any one group to support him at all.

My elder siblings said “Dangerous” was his way of trying to reclaim the black audience he lost with Bad. Which when you look at it…. that is a plausible theory with his music videos for that era: Naomi Campbell, Iman, Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Heavy D, Kriss Kross…then add replacing Quincy Jones with Teddy Riley:ld:

He was definitely recruiting the who’s who of black excellence in the early 90s.

But he almost could do no wrong.
Muthafuka turning white right before our eyes...
We like:yeshrug:

And because you barely saw this nikka... That helped alil bit
