6/7/15 Update:
Cast:
Original post:
With his Fox TV series (Almost Human) now officially canceled (the network announced last night that it would not be renewed for a second season), Michael Ealy now has a little more free time on his schedule to take on other projects - like this one.
The actor is reportedly attached to star in the Sony/Screen Gems revenge thriller titled The Perfect Guy, which will be directed by Sylvain White - another name we haven't heard mentioned (Stateside anyway) in some time (he's been busy in France though, as readers of this blog will know).
According to Production Weekly, the comprehensive production breakdown schedule, Ealy will be joined by Sanaa Lathan and Morris Chestnut, who have both also been offered lead roles in the film which follows a woman (likely the role offered to Lathan) who meets an IT expert (Ealy), who seems to be the perfect guy. But after a sexually-charged courtship, she sees a violent side of him and dissolves the budding relationship. In a jealous rage and fueled by insane revenge he disrupts her life.
No word yet on what role Morris Chestnut might be eyeing here.
The project is said to be in "active development" with script rewrites ordered (Tyger Williams and Barbara Curry are listed as writers), but not production start date announced yet.
James Lopez and Clint Culpepper are executive producing for Screen Gems.
It does remind me a bit of another Screen Gems thriller - the Will Packer-produced thriller No Good Deed (which stars Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson), which is set for a September 12, 2014 release. The stories aren't exactly the same, but, based on what we know of both thus far, each centers on a woman who is terrorized by a handsome, seemingly *safe* but unbalanced stranger.
Good to see Sylvain White back on this side of the Atlantic again
