Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan have some ideas for aCreed sequel, even if they’re only working with a broad and tentative release date. While the man behind Rocky Balboa suggested a Godfather 2 type approach, Jordan feels the sequel could use “a real villain.”
"I think The Godfather take is super ambitious and awesome,” the actor told IGN. “But when you’re dealing with someone like [writer-director] Ryan [Coogler] I think honestly he could pull off anything. So that’s pretty cool. And honestly in Creed 1 we didn’t have a real villain I don’t think, so it would be kind of cool to have that antagonist character for Adonis to go up to and have some real animosity towards. That would be pretty cool.”
Creed saw Jordan as Adonis, the son of legendary boxer Apollo Creed looking to follow in his late father’s footsteps. Stallone reprised his iconic role from the Rocky films and earned a Golden Globe winand an Oscar nomination in the process.
Though it’s not clear if Coogler, who’s set to helm Marvel’s Black Panther, will return to helm Creed 2, he’s game to return. “Having gone through the process and developed these character, delved into this world, worked with these actors, I would love the opportunity to do something like that again and revisit these characters again,” he said. “As long as it’s in a story that works and is as meaningful, frankly, to me as this one was.”
