A writer for Slate has crunched the numbers and uncovered something that many of us already know: Miami has the worst drivers in the country.

Brian Palmer, Slate's "chief explainer" who has cleared up other issues like "Why Do We Drink Lemonade When It's Hot Out," examined insurance, mileage and accident reports and found that the 305 ranks "first in automotive fatalities, first in pedestrian strikes, first in the obscenity-laced tirades of their fellow drivers."

And worse yet, drivers in runner-up Philadelphia were "not even close" to the epic badness of Miami's, according to Slate.

Drivers in the Miami suburb of Hialeah came in third worst, having what Palmer describes as "a terrifying tendency to hit pedestrians."

Here are the pedestrian deaths in Hialeah from 2001-2009, according to Transportation For America:

A 2012 study by Allstate, one of Palmer's key metrics, found that Hialeah drivers have a 77 percent greater chance of getting into an accident -- over the national average of one "auto collision" every 10 years -- while Miami drivers have a 58.4 percent greater chance.

Yet another Florida city ranks in next in fourth place in Palmer's report with Tampa drivers just being generally lousy with no particular vice to note. Read the full story here.

Palmer's not the only one pointing fingers at Florida.

Transportation for America recently ranked the most dangerous metro areas for pedestrians and found that four Florida cities were the four worst in the country.

The news is even worse in South Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol recently released numbers showing that Miami-Dade had the most hit-and-runs in the state in 2012 -- a staggering 35 per day, that's almost 13,000 a year.

Meanwhile there is still no state law requiring a minimum sentence for drivers found guilty of hit-and-runs, with some of those convicted in even fatal crashes sent to jail for less than a year.

And Florida lawmakers have not yet passed any major restrictions on cell phone use behind the wheel, which studies indicate can quadruple the risk of accidents, the same impairment associated with drunk driving.

There is also no true ban on texting-while-driving in Florida, a behavior that is associated with increasing the chance of an accident by as much as 23 times.

Not a surprise to me. I have to drive defensively everyday on the i.

I no shyt have to avoid 3-5 accidents a week average by driving defensively. You can't slip around other drivers, pedestrians and especially people on motorcycles. They do not give a fukk.

When it rains down here, which is often, you need to add about 20-30 minutes to your driving time if you are taking any major highways.

If it wasn't for the mosquitos, disgruntled elderly people, hurricanes, excessive police abuse/shootings, non-assimilating immigrants/Cubans, corrupt politicians, iguana infestations, Constrictor infestations, invasion of other non-native species, excessive humidity, overcrowded public schools, bath salts, overabundance of days with rain, horrible traffic, horrible drivers, the Marlins, overpriced escorts, subpar cannabis, lack of good Philly cheesesteaks, constant sound of lawns being mowed, higher crack addicts-per-square mile statistics, and absurdly high STD rates, South Florida might be the best place to live on earth.

I'd bet that the we have the highest rates of billboards advertising criminal and traffic attorneys in the country down here. Almost all of them are Jewish, and some even wear their skullcap just to make sure you know they're Jewish. Has anyone seen these?

Hilarious.

I'm glad I lived and worked on the beach when I was there. the traffic was hell on the other side of the water. we used to go back and forth to Pompano a lot, and you were guaranteed to see an accident one way or the other (or both)

I know yall mentioning Miami and all, but don't forget about this(jacksonville is #3  ):

Honestly I can't stand traffic in LA at the moment. I even copped a bus pass, for when visiting certain areas. It's just not worth the frustration of being struck in traffic, while dealing idiots trying to run others of the road, to marginally get ahead..

edit: oh shyt:
