BEAVER, Utah (KUTV) — A traffic stop on Interstate 15 through Beaver County led to the discovery of 4 kilograms of cocaine and enough methamphetamines to equal the weight of a microwave, a bag of potatoes, or a 3-year-old child.
Stefany Freites Aular, 31, was arrested Monday after a Utah Highway Patrol trooper observed an expired vehicle with two occupants traveling on I-15, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The trooper initiated a stop just north of Beaver.
"While speaking with the driver, she admitted to not having any insurance for the vehicle," according to the trooper's probable cause statement. "Due to inconsistencies in the driver's travel plans I requested consent to search her vehicle which she granted. I learned the passenger's travel story did not match the driver's story. The passenger also granted consent for a vehicle search."
The report stated that search uncovered the substantial drug cache along with fraudulent Social Security and immigration documents.
An image shared by the Utah Highway Patrol showed the recovered drugs on the hood of a trooper's vehicle -- along with a microwave.
The presence of the microwave wasn't explained, though it is among a list of common items that weigh approximately 30 pounds.
Aular was booked into the Beaver County Jail on suspicion of second degree felony possession with the intent to distribute, and felony possession of fraudulent documents.
The trooper did not specify whether Aular was the driver or the passenger.
The report did not name the other occupant.
"Both occupants of the vehicle are suspected to be illegal aliens," the trooper reported. "If released from custody I believe the two suspects would fail to appear for court proceedings. An immigration hold is being requested by the Beaver County Jail.
