because data and security concerns with tik tok are regarding a rival government collecting said data. they don't care if America pimps Americans

but if anyone is interested in this topic there is a movement to push companies to pay us for our data they sell after all it's ours... this is all new terrain and the rules have to be cemented but hopefully in a way that benefits us more than business. if they are gonna spy and sell regardless we should get a cut

They really thought they were doing something by trying to ban tik tok

As if the data brokers paying for info facebook, Twitter, etc. Took from you won't sell it to the Chinese and other foreign governments :mjlol:

We need an opt in model like the EU has. By default these social media companies have to ask you to take your data and you can tell them "no". That's what happens when your government hasn't been reduced to the PR wing and muscle for big business.

Apple devices give you notifications when your data is being scraped. That should be industry standard. Say what you want about them but they at least are smart enough to comply and get ahead of these concerns instead of whining and trying to fight them and im #androidgang

Did yall really think Facebook was a free service? It's one of the largest most used platforms on the planet. You're paying by legally giving up your browsing habits, interests, phone data, etc.

You think all that money was coming from corporate ads?

It’s crazy how they can tailor content to you based on your data. I still don’t know how all this shyt works
.:flabbynsick:

Do they just take the ones and zeros from your data, input it into your Netflix ecosystem, and now you see ads and shows about weddings because you were browsing engagement rings?

This is has to be why they wanted instagram and whatsapp.

Imagine the company that gets access to those messages.

they prob could if they felt compelled to but every country does not have the app development scene that America and China has. China has it's own app ecosystem that is pushes internally and the rest of the world uses shyt that is available primarily from America. small countries have tried to go hard on internet access before at the onset of the internet and back in the Black Berry Messenger day but it didn't help them at all since they don't invest into developing their tech scenes when they start trying to regulate the internet they affect regular people's lives negatively.

Data is big business. Companies collect and sell data to each other all the time. Even competitor companies do business with each other when it comes to data. They just trying to sell you shyt at the end of the day. Wanna build a consumer profile.

This makes me think of the neurologists pushing to pass legislation that will protect brain wave data, from things like sleep tracking devices, from being sold by private companies.

I made it a point to stop talking reckless on Whatsapp after Lizardman started sniffing around that shyt.
I don't even use the voice/phone feature much anymore too, especially after I realize that WhatsApp now makes it a priority to backup messages at off kilter hours (2-5 am) regardless if you tell the bytch that you don't need your messages archived.
As easy and efficient as the thing is, I can slowly see (and it's already happening) the clamps and drills being installed to monitor/mine data due to the enormous database of 'users' it has, especially throughout the Caribbean where it's the defacto choice of texting/communication.
