The Tape Crusader
Both are over a decade old, but I saw them both last night. Gordon Parks was also great and worth checking out, especially the segment on Flavio, but
Melvin Van Peebles is definitely one of the most inspirational people I've ever come across,
Documentary starts with him moving to Paris and learning french to become a writer, because under law french writers were entitled to one movie
First (and only?) black man to have two shows on Broadway at once (Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, Don't Play Us Cheap).
And on top of all that, including writing/directing/starring in Sweet Sweetback, and giving Madlib some of his best samples, on a bet he becomes the first black Wall Street trader in history
