I know who mel is and was, dude was huge and extremely likable which probably saved him...but tmz been around for a while but social media isn't what it is now, so if his drunk tape dropped today the impact would be more severe. Either way he was blacklisted for a while and slowly made a comeback.

All the broadcasts were huge, bigger than social media because that shyt was all over the internet and mainstream news worldwide.
the fact that he is playing a bit part in a comedy and doing straight to DVD shyt, acting wise shows you he isn't anywhere close to being back.

Got nominated for best director, that's pretty huge by Hollywood standards. He'll never be who he was, has also old and lost his looks that doesn't help so yeah he was definitely hurt by the two incidents but now directing movies and being in major movies even if it's a cameo is still a come back.
