With perhaps a few exceptions that have been so-so, movies based on video game properties have almost consistently been terrible adaptations. Perhaps this is due to how an interactive medium doesn’t translate to smoothly to one which is strictly visual, but even more plot-driven franchises like Assassin’s Creed have failed, too. Still, for whatever reason, 20th Century Fox has been working on producing a movie based on the Mega Man series—which Capcom has been consistently ignoring since 2010—and a recent report suggests that production may be beginning soon.

Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman—directors that have worked on Nerve and a couple Paranormal Activity movies—are in final talks to helm the project. It’s been alive in some form since 2015, but it evidently took Fox two years to finally secure the rights to the film. Perhaps by the time this comes out, Capcom will have finally decided to release another Mega Man game, but in all likelihood, we’ll probably just be playing another Mega Man Legacy Collection.

What do you think? How do you think this movie will turn out? How long will it be before Capcom releases another Mega Man game? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
