J. Mayweather: Alexander, In Rhythm, Beats Thurman Easy
Posted by: Edward Chaykovsky on 9/29/2014

By Edward Chaykovsky

Trainer Jeff Mayweather discussed the potential welterweight fight between top contenders Keith Thurman (23-0, 21KOs) and Devon Alexander (26-2, 14KOs). There have been rumors that a Thurman-Alexander fight is being considered for the fall. Both boxers are handled by Golden Boy Promotions and managed by Al Haymon.

Jeff sees Alexander as the overall better fighter and predicts him to win, rather easily, if he sticks to boxing. Alexander seems to do his very best against aggressive fighters who try to take his head off - like Juan Urango, Marcos Maidana and Jesus Soto Karass.

"That’s a good fight, that’s a real good fight. I think that Devon Alexander has much better skills, Thurman is probably a little better puncher. It’s a pick’em fight. I think that if Devon Alexander is really in his rhythm, I think that he’ll beat him easily. If he can’t deal with the pressure that Thurman brings, I think that he’ll probably come up short. I think whoever dictates the pace of the fight will win," Jeff told On The Ropes Boxing Radio

I'd favor Devon Alexander as well in the fight. He's more skilled than Thurman to me:manny:

Either could win, it's a pretty close matchup, but I'd put my predictions record on The Great to beat One Time.

This would be a 50/50 fight at this stage of both of their careers... I'd favor Thurman personally, but Alexander if can use his feet and avoid too many exchanges can easily pull this off. If thurman can win this in impressive fashion that means he's definitely legit

Yep, I agree 100%.

At this point it''s a "pick em fight".

Y'know what Jeff is failing to mention is the difference between One Time and those three fighters? All 3 of them are slow as fukk.
Devon will get that work from the Lethal Lisp...that is if Allah Haymon actually makes the fight.

No I didnt....need to get these casuals educated in other boxers, and using "Mayweather" (which Jeff IS a Mayweather) in the title will make them curious into what fighters he's talking about.

Lord knows Thurman needs some help being recognized, especially since he's one of the young exciting boxers we have in the sport, so I got "mislead" the casuals in hopes they will pay attention and learn about 2 young fighters that would be a great matchup:manny:

You hear Paulie Malinaggi say that while a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight will generate interest...the real threat to Mayweather is a fight with Keith Thurman or Amir Khan?

Alexander is too hot and cold. I think Thurman wins pretty decisively although it's still a pick 'em type fight.

I think Thurman does everything Devon does better.
He doesn't have a better jab and I think Devon has quicker hands and feet
Keith got that one punch power though
