To me, Glory is damn near the GOAT movie and a definite top contender but...I just can't take Matthew Broderick seriously

On one hand...

He's a very young commanding officer who's unsure of himself and has to grow and mature quick, which is similar to a young Matt Brod. in this film whose claim to fame was Ferris Bueller where he played a young white free spirited teenager (not much acting required) and now is standing amongst top dogs in a high profile serious war drama.

On the other...

Everything feels so forced, nothing seemed natural and he's overall out of place. shyt, Denzel was young too but that didn't stop him from blowing everybody outta the water. *cues..."the-scene"...* :to: They should've cast someone who could actually act for such a high profile movie & role.

Could you imagine a young :leostare: playing that role and KILLING it??

(sure he was too young, just playing fantasy casting)

I thought he did just fine. His clumsy, unsure of himself, confidence lacking, in over his head character may have come off so well because that's exactly what he was compared to the other actors. It worked very well on screen, and I almost think somebody with more chops may not have been able to do the uncomfortable part as well because of their ability. A strong, scene dominating actor wasn't needed for that role because it would have taken away from the main focus, which was the soldiers and their struggle for acceptance. I think :leostare: would have been too much. One great talent that I could see handling it really well though is Gary Oldman. Dude knows how to be a chameleon on camera. There are times when I don't even realize it's him playing the role.

And I assume when you say Denzel was young, you mean in his hollywood career, cause he was damn near 40 during that movie. But he was far from the box office powerhouse he is known as now.

He was supposed to be weak, he really wasnt shown any respect. They chose him to fail as a leader of the black soldiers. He did a good job, may very well been bettter actors to play the part but he did the job imo.

The general had to be a young and patient dude to make it seem believable. If he was some grizzled old veteran. The opening credits would've been denzel getting whipped and none of the trouble would've taking place. You needed a weak character to show the progress and change.

Matthew Broderick was awful.

This movie could have been so much better if Cary Elwes and Matthew Broderick weren't in it.

Literally every other casting job was great.
