Master P to star in movie about the Angola 3, Variety reports
New Orleans rap mogul Master P is set to star in an upcoming feature film about the Angola 3, a trio of inmates at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola whose story became a cause celebre after they were forced to spend decades in solitary confinement. Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, will portray inmate Robert King, who spent 29 years in solitary before his being released in 2001,according to Variety.
Directed by Philippe Diaz, the $2.5 million film will be titled "Angola 1, 2 & 3" and based on a script Diaz wrote with King. Filming is reportedly set to begin Aug. 15, although it is unclear where the project will be shot.
Cinema Libre, which is producing with AGG Entertainment and China's GAIA Studio, has promised that a significant amount of the proceeds will go to the Angola 3 -- King, who was released in 2001; Albert Woodfox, who was released in February after 43 years in solitary; and the estate of Herman Wallace, who died days after being released in 2013, following more than 41 years in solitary.
